West Villages Improvement District was created by the Florida Legislature in 2004 via the House Bill No. 2004-456, which was amended as it follows:House Bill No. 2006-355

Location and Acreage
The District is located SW of North River Road, along South Tamiami Trail (U.S. 41), approximately six miles west of Interstate 75. The District encompasses approximately 12,409 acres of land and is located in the City of North Port (approx 8,800 acres) and in unincorporated Sarasota County (approx. 3,600 acres).Administration
The chief administrative official of the District is the District Manager who has charge and supervision of the works of the District and is responsible for preserving and maintaining any improvement or facility constructed by WVID, for maintaining and operating the equipment owned by the District, and for performing such other duties as may be prescribed by the Board.The District has contracted Special District Services, Inc. to serve as its District Manager. The office is located at 2501A Burns Road, Palm Beach Gardens, Florida 33410, telephone number (561) 630-4922, or (877) 737-4922.
The District has employed the services of Stantec Consulting Services, Inc., Sarasota, Florida, as District Engineer; and Hopping Green & Sams, P.A., Tallahassee, Florida, as District Counsel.
